I used to think we "elected" our so-called "leaders."
Now I know better. I remember delayed "counting." I remember security camera videos of truckloads of ballots arriving middle of the night. I remember the tv screen showing 10,000 or so votes magically subtracted from one candidate's tally while added to the other. In real time. Live on tv. I remember reading of district totals that were significantly higher than their # of registered voters.
And now, a candidate drops out & is replaced without a single primary vote cast.
It used to be "It's not who votes that counts; it's who counts the votes."
Now, voting is just so passe. It's just who is chosen by...someone.

Please, try to understand that I write from an African perspective. I do not doubt that your assertions re your system are valid, but how do we in, say, Africa interpret the Westerners (academic, ngoists, religious, economic and political evangelists) who trample around our countries purportedly teaching what you so dismiss here?
Your media (god knows that there are mysriads of them) constantly trumpet to us how your systems are the best every invented by the brains of Man (I am not being sexist, please).
Your scholars are in our tertiary institutions praching the gospels of western democracy and the superiority of capitalism.

I now personally find it embarrassing & shameful to be an American. We had an embarrassment of riches here, which has been squandered. So I feel the need to explain that this is *not* what we the people voted for!
It is a beautiful late summer day where I live. Warm, sunny days & crisp, cool nights. I look forward to tending my garden & pasture...
