Hot Question of the Day: #3
Why do African nations continue to pay pensions and retirement benefits to those who ran the continent aground?
My question was informed by recent happenings in Nigeria where some retired Generals made a song-and-dance about contributing to retrieve a kidnapped retired General.
Not only did Nigeria expend humongous amounts to train and keep these Generals in service, but the retired ones continued to draw undeserved retirement benefits from the state.
The question is how do these over-pampered and over-compensated retirees justify our keeping them when they have let their country down so abysmally??
Perhaps we can extend our question to why we should continue to pay for the pension and other benefits of those who ran our state assets aground, like the Nigerian Airways.
